Automated bending system launched at MACH

TRUMPF demonstrated its automated bending system at MACH 2008. A broad variety of parts can be automatically produced by the system thanks to the gripping technology options available including vacuum, multi-circuit suction cups and suction pads.

The press brake and handling system are under one control and are programmed with TruTops Bend software. The new sheet metal sensor and double sheet recognition system ensure high accuracy and process safety without the need for centering. The design permits rapid positioning and process flexibility as the bending cell can be operated manually at any time.

An additional module with BendMaster is the new mechanical gripper, even parts up to a DIN A4 format size and weights up to 2.0kg can be automatically bent. The connection takes place via the pneumatic gripper coupling. An additional sliding axis significantly reduces re-gripping time, typically by 15 seconds. The new gripper technology augments the vacuum technology. This combination makes the bending machines of the TruBend Series 5000 into universal bending cells for small and large workpieces.

Conveyor belt connection and pallet conveyor complete the logistics relating to the bending cell. Components such as boxes or complex bending parts are discharged from the bending cell via the conveyor belt. Bending is not interrupted by the disposal of the finished parts as both processes are performed concurrently.

The pallet conveyor allows the Euro pallets to be moved in and out without interrupting the bending process. Large batches can be smoothly processed without loss of production time by loading new blanks in parallel with the bending process and the unloading of finished parts. A single control unit serves both conveyor belt and pallet conveyor.

Other new features include a mobile control that provides all the most important machining functions on a foot switch panel and a visual set-up and positioning aid comprising a row of LEDs in the top tool clamping system. This helps tool set-up and highlights the next bending station.

BendMaster was demonstrated at MACH with the tried-and-tested TruBend 5130 and a press brake that offers a maximum press tonnage of 1,300kN on a fold length of 3,230mm.

TRUMPF is the only manufacturer offering the 6-axis backgauge in automated operation. The bending cells use the ACB angular position measuring system in combination with high axis speeds to achieve maximum process reliability and angle precision. With a track up to 14 m long and the use of customised conveyor technology components, TRUMPF offers maximum flexibility and productivity in the bending cell.
