New spot welder with integrated transformer gun
Wilkinson Star Limited has launched ‘Rhino’, a new 3-phase 400V 50/60Hz mobile spot welding package with integrated transformer gun utilising inverter technology and 4m cables. The Manchester based industrial equipment supplier is the UK representative for Bologna based resistance welding specialists TECNA S.p.A.
This new generation of resistance spot welder is designed specifically to meet the welding requirements associated with new materials used in the automotive industry plus the need for repetitive, consistent quality welds for auto body repair which can be recorded to demonstrate repair integrity.
It can operate at up to 14,000 Amps, is rated 17kVA @ 50% duty cycle, requires max 8 bar compressed air and has 6.3V secondary no-load voltage plus a maximum welding power of 12kVA.
Rhino utilises TECNA’s inverter power source technology with an integrated low noise water cooling system. The computerised 7” touch screen technology provides a user friendly control system that allows the user to select the right operating mode. ‘EASY’ mode for basic operator adjustment, ‘SMART’ mode for automated computer adjusted parameters and welding pressures, whilst the ‘EXPERT’ mode allows the operator to input his own extensive welding parameters. Up to 150 customised welding programmes can be stored in the systems memory with actual weld data for individual welds being memorised for quality control procedures. These can be downloaded using a USB port to a stand alone computer as well as allowing upgrades to the systems software, with new material data, improvements in hardware operations and additional programmes.
As standard, it is supplied with a 12.5kg. ‘C’ type spot welding gun having a maximum 450da/N force @ 8 bar. A swivel suspension arm and balancer designed for easy handling and operation of the welding gun is also supplied as standard. A 13kg ‘X’ type spot welding gun is available as an option. A wide range of arms are available for both guns.
In addition to the ‘C’ type gun, power source and water cooling unit, the standard ‘Rhino’ package includes a suspension arm and balancer,190mm arm set, accessory kit with 16mm electrode tips, mains input cable, 4-wheel undercarriage with gun holder and accessories storage area.
