New Dimension in component measuring

Newly established Dimension Metrology provides a high accuracy measuring service using the latest industry standard CAD modelling system, which aligns the component to a three dimensional computer generated representation.

Measuring subcontractors Simon Morris and Stephen Swainston have established Dimension Metrology

Dimension Metrology is a new measuring service company that has set up in East Durham, operating from Thornley Station Industrial Estate, Shotton Colliery, Co Durham.

The company provides a high accuracy measuring service using the latest industry standard CAD modelling system that aligns the component to a three dimensional computer generated representation. Dimension Metrology can also pre-measure a component using a CAD model in an offline virtual environment.

As a subcontractor there are very few companies capable of offering this type of service in the country and to their knowledge Dimension Metrology is the only subcontractor with this capability in the North East.

Dimension Metrology works with all types of industry from aerospace and automotive, to pharmaceutical and petrochemical. The company’s philosophy is to provide a quality service to all customers that satisfies the needs of the respective businesses, supports their business goals and objectives and provides them with a measurable benefit.

This is achieved by employing three dimensional co-ordinate measuring machines and vision equipment, accurate to 0.001mm, to confirm the dimensional accuracy of manufactured parts.

Simon Morris and Stephen Swainston have over 40 years metrology experience between them, having been employed in the business of metrology in other companies before setting up Dimension Metrology Ltd.

The partners believe that many manufacturing companies are currently experiencing increasing demands to meet more stringent design requirements which are resulting in closer attention being paid to measurement and measurement accuracy. Dimension Metrology hope to gain this work, as a specialist, measurement subcontractor.

Dimension Metrology decided to set up in East Durham because of its central location to both the A1 and A19 and the surrounding economic centres of Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham and Middlesbrough.

In order to find out how to set up a business, get some financial support and acquire some general information about setting up in the area Dimension Metrology used the free advice provided by East Durham Business Service. The company worked with Steve Souter, the Business Start-up Advisor and Susan McGregor, the Marketing Advisor.

Dimension Metrology was awarded the Business Start-up Grant, £750 available to new businesses in East Durham on successful completion of the application process.
